Jazz Flutist Bobby Ramirez Makes His New York City Debut

New York, NY - Jazz flutist, saxophonist, vocalist, composer and arranger Bobby Ramirez is pleased to announce his debut appearance at the Triad Music and Performance Space, Wednesday September 25, 2002 (158 W. 72nd St. btw Columbus & Broadway 212. 362.2590) and at the Blue Lounge at Gonzalez y Gonzalez on September 26th (625 Broadway bet. Houston & Bleecker 212-473-8787).

For his debut appearance Bobby will lead an ensemble including bassist Harvie S and other top New York City musicians performing the music of Bill Evans, Miles Davis, Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie, Mario Bauza, Antonio Carlos Jobim, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker and many other masters, plus original compositions from Bobby Ramirez.

From swing, bebop, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian music, to rhythms from Central/South America and the Caribbean, Ramirez's repertoire represents an extraordinary fusion of world music with Jazz influence. Whether it's bebop or Latin Jazz, Ramirez possesses an astounding musical ability to swing both ways with profound authenticity and passion for the music.

Born in Santa Clara, Cuba, Ramirez and his family came to Miami from Cuba in the early Seventies. His musical studies began as a teenager learning how to play the saxophone at Brownsville Jr. High School as well as flute, guitar, arranging and composing. . After high school his musical studies continued at Miami-Dade Community College, Florida International University, as well as individual private sessions in a variety of styles from Jazz to classical music. Since the mid 1980's, Ramirez has performed in many music festivals for all kinds of audiences from around the world. Ramirez has also performed as a guest soloist and/or as an opening act for some notable jazz musicians-some of which include the late great Latin music legends Tito Puente and Mario Bauza, also Patato Valdez, Cachao, Gato Barbieri, Arturo Sandoval, Danilo Perez, Giovnni Hidalgo and the Florida International University Concert Jazz Band.

Bobby Ramirez's music covers a wide musical spectrum, from the Latin side of Jazz to swing and bebop. While his musical roots stem from his birthplace Cuba, having grown up in the United States has enabled his talents to blossom within a grand multicultural environment.
