Appearing at Jazz at the Playhouse, will be the organ trio Three Blind Mice featuring saxophonist Victor North, organist Lucas Brown, and drummer Wayne Smith Jr. at the Society Hill Playhouse, 507 S. 8th Street in Philadelphia (19147) on March 15th.

About Three Blind Mice
Formed in the early 2000's by the intuition of Victor North, the trio's chemistry was immediate and thus began what would become Three Blind Mice: a modern organ trio steeped in the traditions of Jazz. Originally hailing from Alaska, the now long-time Philly transplant, Victor North, teamed up with Philadelphia's Lucas Brown and Wayne Smith, both of whom carry on the great tradition of rhythm section players from their hometown. Together the three have forged their own sound and feature an expansive repertoire that is constantly growing with new original compositions. And additionally, on any given night, you may hear them paying homage to their many influences, playing the music of greats like John Coltrane, Hank Mobley, Larry Young or Wes Montgomery, as well as contemporary artists such as Peter Bernstein. But what is really unique about this group is the dynamic interplay, the intent listening, the infectious swing, the entire unit, each part moving separately but always together as one.
In 2011, their long-awaited debut album The Outsider, packed full with original music penned by Mr. North and Mr. Brown, was hailed as a critical success. The trio have been together for eight years and the album showcases their cooperative sound as well as the high degree of communication they share resulting from their long tenure together. Victor North's composition Now We Know What It Means is a poignant tribute to the victims of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and the title is a nod to the Louis Armstrong standard Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans? Lucas Brown coaxes hymn-like sounds out of the organ in the introduction to his ballad Hatha, while Mr. Smith provides his unique fire to the ironically-titled closing track Intro.
