Jazz Appreciation Month Events at the Woodlawn Cemetery

April is Jazz Appreciation Month and many of the world's greatest jazz musicians are at rest in The Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Lionel Hampton, Coleman Hawkins, Joseph “King" Oliver, Jonah Jones, Milt Jackson and Illinois Jacquet are among the musicians and composers in Woodlawn's care. The Friends of The Woodlawn Cemetery will pay tribute to the jazz greats by hosting special walking tours and a concert honoring Duke Ellington.



Leaders of the Harlem Renaissance - Sunday, April 22nd at 2 pm. Walking tour of the final resting places of entertainer Florence Mills, poet Countee Cullen, arts patron A'Lelia Walker, sculptor May Howard Jackson, Duke Ellington and many more. Admission is $10 for Adults, $5 for Seniors and Students. Children under 6 are free.

Jazz Concert Honoring Duke Ellington - Sunday April 29th at 2pm. The Juilliard Jazz Quintet pays tribute to “The Maestro" on the 108th anniversary of his birth. Woolworth Chapel, Admission is Free.

Jazz Greats of Woodlawn - Sunday April 29th at 3:30 pm. Walking tour to the memorials for Miles Davis, Coleman Hawkins, WC Handy and many more. Admission is $10 for Adults, $5 for Seniors and Students. Children under 6 are free.
