JAY COLLINS BAND http://www.interjazz.com/jaycollins
This music is best described as roots, blues, poetry and modern jazz all at once. The band has been gigging around NYC at museums, bars and performance spaces --- attracting a growing audience. Led by Jay Collins at vocals, tenor & soprano saxes, flute & bansuri, the group features Dred Scott at piano, Diego Voglino on drums, John Robinson on bass, and Moses Petrou on percussion and back-up vocals. Their sound can be described at Dr. John meets Coltrane, or Bob Dylan meets Pharoah Sanders.
Mr. Collins has worked as a sideman with diverse artists, some of them legendary, including: Andrew Hill (jazz pianist/composer), the Allman Brothers Band (rock legends), Gregg Allman and Friends, Bobby Sanabria (afro-cuban percussionist), and LeRoy Vinnegar (be-bop bassist, 1928-1999).
Some musicians simply sound good and Mr. Collins is one of them. He has flow, his ideas rolling out of the horn with a narrative sense..." -New York Times
