Thursday, March 8th, 2007 @ 8pm
Cabaret Jazz
Barbara Carroll with Ken Peplowski, Jay Leonhart and Joe Ascione; and Paula West Quartet

Barbara Carroll is an elegant jazz pianist, composer and vocalist who has long been regarded as one of the most fascinating purveyors of swinging jazz piano and rhythmic, expressive vocals.

Whether Ms. Carroll is rendering a composition by Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, Billly Strayhorn or Thelonious Monk, her inventive piano playing and totally unique vocal sound insure that she will transform that composition into her own art -- presented as no one else has presented it--with her trademark emotional directness and respect for the tune and all of its many possibilities.

Paula West is a jazz singer whose choice of materials and intelligent way with lyrics allow her to cross over to cabaret. She offers multiple pleasures - the musicianship and sophistication of jazz combined with the emphasis on text, the droll humor, and the story songs that appeal to the cabaret audience.

Also featured on this evening's program are the swinging clarinetist Ken Peplowski, a Highlights regular, the witty and swinging bassist Jay Leonhart and vversitile drummer Joe Ascione both of whom have appeared many times at Highlights in Jazz concerts.
