INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY | APRIL 30, 2015
REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

Dear Friends,

We are just over two months away from the fourth annual International Jazz Day!

This Jazz Day is particularly special—not only is Paris the 2015 Global Host City, but this year's celebration also coincides with the ongoing observance of UNESCO's 70th Anniversary and will highlight the themes of Freedom, Intercultural Dialogue and Human Dignity.

We truly appreciate the time and effort each of you put in across America to make Jazz Day a shining success! In 2014, the Day saw close to 700 registered events in 196 countries with 140 events coming from the United States. From elementary schools, public libraries and record shops to clubs, museums, and outdoor parks, it was truly an incredible showing that reflects the continued vitality and vibrancy of America's national musical treasure.

We are often asked, “How is jazz related to the host city?" Jazz has also long been an important part of French culture. Apart from producing some of the most accomplished artists in the idiom, including Django Reinhardt, Edith Piaf, Stephane Grappelli, Jean-Luc Ponty and many more, France has long served as a melting pot for talent irrespective of national origin, collapsing boundaries and uniting people of different backgrounds to foster creativity and mutual respect.

We are also pleased to announce that the Jazz Education Network is hosting the third annual JAZZ2U grant program supported by The Herb Alpert Foundation. Available to members, it funds the fee for a performer, speaker or clinician at a jazz-related event. We look forward to a record year of applicants for International Jazz Day. We invite you to register your event and please encourage others to celebrate on April 30th!

Sincerely,

Wendy Wang
