Houston Person To Perform In Daytona

Internationally acclaimed tenor saxophonist Houston Person will perform at the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona Beach on Saturday, October 16 at the North East Florida Jazz Association's (NEFJA) eighth annual Jeep McCoy Memorial Concert Supper.

Person, 75, built his reputation as a leader with a series of soulful recordings on the Prestige label in the 60's. He is best known for his legendary partnership with the late jazz vocalist Etta Jones. Currently he'swith the HighNote Records and his latest album “Moment to Moment" was released in January of this year. Person's list of awards and accolades is exhaustive and includes the Independent Jazz Record of the Year for his recording “Something in Common" with Ron Carter and the prestigious Eubie Blake Jazz Award.

Performing with Person will be Barry Greene on guitar, Doug Carn on piano, Ray Callendar trumpet, John Lumpkin on drums and Ricky Ravelo on bass. The concert will kick off NEFJA's 2010-2011 concert series and proceeds from the event will go to the Jeep McCoy Scholarship Fund.

NEFJA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the perpetuation, performance, preservation, and promotion of jazz. In addition to bringing nationally and internationally known jazz performers to the local area, the group awards scholarships to talented young students enrolled in a Jazz studies program at a Florida college or university.

The concert will begin at 4:00 PM and the supper, featuring vocalist Gina René of Savannah, Georgia, will follow immediately after. The Museum is located at 352 S. Nova Road, Daytona Beach.

Tickets for the Concert Supper will be available until October 11 and cost $45 for NEFJA members, $50 for non-members. Tickets for the concert only are $20.
