February will again bring some of the worlds' most renowned Jazz artists to Pinehurst for the 27th Annual Heart 'n Soul of Jazz. Presented by Pinehurst Resort and the Arts Council of Moore County, the benefit will feature harmonica player and guitarist Pat Bergeson & his Quartet featuring vocalist Annie Sellick performing on Friday, February 10, and trumpeter and vocalist Brian Newman and his Quartet on Saturday, February 11. The weekend of classic jazz will take place in the Cardinal Ballroom of the Carolina Hotel and is sponsored by Pinehurst Resort, American Airlines, Progress Energy, King Fisher Society. The Meet-the-Artists Dessert Reception is sponsored by BB&T and Wachovia. The Friday night door prize is sponsored by Lyne's Furniture Gallery. Heart 'n Soul of Jazz is a benefit for the Arts Council of Moore County.

About Pat Bergeson & Annie Sellick: Guitarist and harmonica player Pat Bergeson has written, toured, and recorded with many of his musical heroes. Beginning at the University of Illinois in his home state, he moved on to New York City and earned a Jazz Studies degree at William Patterson University. After playing in New York for 10 years, he arrived in Nashville upon the request of Chet Atkins who heard Pat on a demo tape. They became good friends and toured together for several years.

A versatile guitarist as well as chromatic and diatonic harmonica player, Pat's style incorporates jazz, blues, rock and finger style and he is known for his session work with a variety of artists. He has performed with the likes of Bill Evans, Lyle Lovett, Bill Frisell, Alison Krauss, Dolly Parton, Martin Taylor, Michael McDonald and many others. Pat is also a teacher and producer and has appeared on many movie soundtracks.

Annie Sellick is a straight-ahead jazz vocalist known for her captivating stage presence. She is the resident vocalist with the Nashiville Jazz Orchestra, with whom she has recorded, and she gave a celebrated sold-out performance of jazz with the Nashville Symphony Pops Orchestra. Her artistry lies in her “personal touch," which reaches non-jazz audiences, people of all ages, and jazz audiences alike. She has performed all over the world with such incredible musicians as B.B. King, Bela Fleck, Curtis Stigers, Mark O'Connor, and the late Eddie Higgins.

About the Brian Newman Quartet: Trumpeter and vocalist Brian Newman has performed at a variety of legendary jazz venues, such as Birdland, Oak Room, The Blue Note, and Feinstein's. He has been called “brilliant" by The New York Times, and as a band leader and a sideman, he continues to perform throughout NYC and abroad adding his personal style and touch to every note.

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Brian finished at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and immediately headed for New York City where he has been performing music from the American songbook with some of the most talented performers in the city. One such appearance includes Lady Gaga's 2011 MTV Video Music Awards promos. He was also named official trumpet player of The Greg James Show on BBC. As a band leader and a sideman, he continues to perform throughout NYC and abroad adding his personal and stylistic touch to every single note.

Ticket Information: Heart 'n Soul of Jazz tickets go on sale November 15 at http://www.ShopPinehurst.com for a special early purchase price of $55 per concert or $100 for both nights. After January 1, 2012, tickets will be $65 per concert or $110 for both nights. In addition to the concert ticket, admission includes entry to the Meet-the-Artists Dessert Reception after the concert and a chance for a special door prize.

Individual ticket holders can also take advantage of a special pre-jazz dinner for $40 inclusive of tax and service charge. Dinner reservations can be made by calling 910-235-8434. Special early seating for Jazz ticket holder begins at 5:30 p.m. each evening.

Doors open each night at 7 p.m. for the 8 p.m. performance. Open Cabaret-seating is in the intimate, 2-tiered Cardinal Ballroom. A limited number of tables of 10 are available to be reserved in advance. Cocktail attire/black tie optional is expected dress.

Overnight packages start at $199 per person, per night and include a ticket to the 8 p.m. concert, admission to the post-event reception, champagne delivered to your room, breakfast the next day, and choice of a 50-minute spa treatment or a round of golf on Nos. 1, 3 or 5.
