ith the growth of recorded music, in 1906 an enterprising - and by all accounts highly eccentric! - collector and entrepreneur called George Russell opened the Gramophone Record Exchange at the Angel London. Since then the company has been based in New Oxford Street, Shaftesbury Avenue, Wardour Street, York Road and finally at its present home, Lower Marsh behind Waterloo Station.

The name Gramex was adopted in 1982, when the shop dealt exclusively in used classical recordings. Today Gramex is the only European dealer to cover the entire history of recorded sound, stocking CD, DVD, Video, LP, reel-to-reel tape, 78rpm and cylinders. In fact, Gramex is now home to the largest collection of Premium Classical LPs in any UK shop - do see Buying & Selling for details. Gramex also prides itself on carrying a substantial number of rare or deleted discs. And our knowledgeable staff will be happy to help you whether you are new to classical music and jazz, or a seasoned collector.

In March 2006 the shop began to buy and sell jazz CDs and LPs and Jazz At Gramex was born, which includes collectable rock and pop LPs, show, world music and spoken word CDs.

We hope you enjoy browsing through the site, and we will be able to help you fulfill your desires.
