The Blue Unity Orchestra will stage a series of participatory events as part of The City College of New York Black Studies Program's Black History Month events. These events, which will include workshops and open rehearsals, will culminate in a Blue Unity Orchestra Legacy concert at the Aronow Theatre on CCNY's Harlem campus on February 24, 2012 at 8 pm.
The Blue Unity Orchestra promotes the work of African, African-American and Afro-Diasporic composers. This year's event will feature a work from Panamanian-born jazz composer and saxophonist Jorge Sylvester especially arranged for the Blue Unity Orchestra and performed with the members of his ensemble, the Afro-Caribbean Experimental Collective.
The Blue Unity Orchestra invites CCNY students, student organizations, faculty and staff to participate in these events. The open rehearsals and the concert event will be free and open to the entire CCNY family, our neighbors residing in the community, and the general public.
