Co-produced by Joey Berkley and guitarist John Tropea, I Hear Voices offers some great playing and some great singing—all in the Funkasaurus Rex style that fans have enjoyed for years.
Funkasaurus Rex was created by tenor saxophonist Joey Berkley in 2005 to give working musicians an outlet for creative, demanding music by restoring funk and R&B with musical integrity. Featuring top NYC players, the band has earned a reputation for ensemble precision, inventive writing and great soloists by injecting jazz sophistication with funk grooves.
Funkasaurus Rex features a dynamic five-piece horn section along with a versatile rhythm section to create jazz with power, precision and originality. The band is a testament to musicians who play for the love of playing. Each member of the band is a heavy-weight in their own right, motivated by the challenging musical arrangements. They work together in presenting a uniquely demanding body of material that thrills a listening audience while also moving it to dance.
Etched in Stone was released in 2008 and included on the entry-list for the 2009 Grammy nominations in five categories. This CD enjoys a widespread presence on internet radio-platform sites and radio air-play lists.
