A treasure chest of musicality, there is so much talent packed into the 12 tracks that you may find yourself having difficulty choosing a favorite song. For instance, you’ll hear a touch of old-school Motown in Donn’s voice when the CD kicks off with the catchy “My Favorite Song,” while you may find yourself dancing in your living room to “Just Have A Good Time.” The craftsmanship of this incredible collection of musicians stands out in “Fly By Night,” while the party groove will be set to maximum in “Move Around” with lyrics teasing the listener to remember that “You ain’t dead, yet!” Gospel jazz fans will be pulled in immediately by “Nobody Greater.” If you love a good groove laid down by a seasoned rhythm section with a master of sax, then “Warm It Up” will be a treat. However, “Wonderful Thing” is surely to be the anniversary anthem song of the year.
In order to understand what makes this CD a treasure, you’ll need a primer on Donn’s history. A music maker during the formative years of Motown, Donn has toured with legends like the Commodores, Bootsy Collins, The Brothers Johnson and more. In addition to an ongoing list of live performances with various R&B and funk artists that includes Michel’le, Donn is also a devoted Gospel performer. He has recorded and performed with Kynne Smith. As a member of Bootsy’s Rubber Band, Bynum was featured on the song Make My Funk The P-Funk," along with funk master keyboardist Bernie Worrell. In 2008, Donn released his long-awaited debut solo CD, Do You Feel Me." Featured on the CD were Bernie Worrell (Parliament/Funkadellic) and smooth jazz guitarist Paul Jackson Jr. Nina Goodrich of the Jazz Review declared, Bynum captivates his audiences and is ready to capture someone’s heart."
Fans are encouraged to tune into R&B Divas: LA, which according to Billboard is “slated to premiere on TV One in third quarter 2013.” Be sure to look for Donn in the band during any of the performances by Michel’le.
