Friendfinder Makes $210m Bid for Playboy

FriendFinder Networks, a social networking site, said Thursday that it had made an unsolicited $210 million bid for Playboy Enterprises.

FriendFinder, which includes a personals site as well as a a more adult option, also owns an additional 30,000 Web sites, the company said.

MarketWatch reported that the Playboy board promised to consider the offer, after founder Hugh Hefner offered to take the company private for about $184 million.

“FriendFinder Networks believes its proposal is in the best interest of Playboy Enterprises and its stockholders, providing a basis for future growth of the Playboy brand and enhancing the Playboy legacy," FriendFinder said in a statement. “With over 200,000 affiliates in its network, FriendFinder Networks maintains one of the world's largest internet affiliate programs, providing the Playboy brand the ability to help extend its global reach."

FriendFinder Networks proposed a meeting for July 21, 2010 to discuss the opportunity, the company said.
