TV personalities of Chefs for Humanity and Fashion Indie support Action Against Hunger's Celebrity Kick-Off Party on Thursday April 12, from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Altman Building, 135 West 18th Street, in New York City. This fundraising event will promote and support Action Against Hunger's programs worldwide and is tied to a month-long Restaurants Against Hunger initiative to raise funds to eliminate global hunger.

The national Restaurants Against Hunger campaign will be launched on April 10, and run through May 9, with restaurants in 25 cities throughout the United States and Canada asking patrons to add $1 or more to the cost of their meal, to help eliminate global hunger and its underlying causes.

“We are excited about partnering with Action Against Hunger in support of the many worthwhile nutrition and clean water projects that our partner has developed around the world." said Chefs for Humanity President and Founder, Cat Cora, who is also the first female Iron Chef America. “We hope to highlight the dedication of our chefs to charitable activities and to helping those in need. As a creative chef I am thrilled to be working with Malan Breton in creating a piece of culinary inspired fashion art for a great cause and for a very special event."

The highlight of the evening is a one-of-a-kind Chef Jacket Fashion Show produced by Fashion Indie. Designed by New York's best emerging designers, with conceptual input by top culinary celebrities, the chef jackets will be auctioned off to raise money for Action Against Hunger.

“Partnering with Katie Lee Joel on the creation of her jacket has been a unique and fun way to help Action Against Hunger pursue its vision of a world without hunger," says fashion designer Joanna Mastroianni.

Participating and attending chefs include Chefs for Humanity President and Founder Cat Cora and Charter Chef Council Chair Ming Tsai. They are joined by their fellow council chefs and friends Marcus Samuelsson, Christina Pirello, Robert Irvine, Katie Lee Joel, Ted Allen, Diane Henderiks, Paul Dillon and others. Fashion Indie founder Daniel Saynt has arranged participation of designers Victoria Bartlett, Zulema Griffin, Joanna Mastroianni, Malan Breton, Diana Eng, Alyssa Key of Love Brigade and many others.

Mitchell Davis of the James Beard Foundation will preside as Master of Ceremonies for the Celebrity Kick-Off Party on April 12.

The event will also feature African jazz vocalist SOMI and dance music provided by DJ D-Nice. Guests will experience a selection of food and beverages including wines, champagnes and microbrews, savory food provided by regional restaurants, and a Chocolatt Caf with esteemed pastry chefs from around New York.

Tickets for the VIP Party are $250 and general admission is $75. Tickets are limited and can be purchased at www.restaurantsagainsthunger.net or at the door. Proceeds from the event will benefit Action Against Hunger.
