Flip Phillips, one of the last swing stars dead at 86

Tenor Saxophonist Flip Phillips died last Friday, August 17 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He made his mark with the Woody Herman band in the mid forties and later touring with Jazz at the Philharmonic. Last year he recorded “Swing is the Thing" for Verve records. (Roberto Barahona www.purojazz.com)
