Celebrating the Great Migration!
The Philadelphia Jazz Project and the Arch Street Meeting House present: First Friday Rent Parties!
5 fun-filled Fridays that celebrate the “rent party”, a creative response by Great Migrationeers to the financial struggles of their new lives. While providing a needed good time, these rent parties also solved some pressing economic problems.
On the first Fridays from April through August, we celebrate by representing the five states that most Black Philadelphians families migrated from during the Great Migration: Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
Each party will feature, a live Jazz band and pre-recorded music, dance instruction and free dance, a buffet of themed dishes created by Chef Valerie Erwin of Geechee Girl Restaurant, wine/beer, other beverages, and fun!
In addition, there will be special guests and the exclusive PJP vendors, Books & Stuff and The Silk Tent.
