Brotzmann is a self-taught musician and co-founder of the groundbreaking FMP label whose early work in the mid-1960’s helped build the foundation of the European free jazz scene. He has since performed in various formats with a seemingly endless list of the genre’s most respected performers, including membership in such all-star ensembles as the Globe Unity Orchestra, the ICP Orchestra, Last Exit and his own Die Like A Dog Quartet and Chicago Tentet. His discography features nearly 200 recordings, including more than 65 as a leader/co-leader.
The son of noted Motown and modern jazz drummer Freddie Waits, Nasheet Waits has carved out a name for himself over the past 15 years as the drummer of choice for such acclaimed leaders as Orrin Evans, Antonio Hart, Fred Hersch, Andrew Hill and Jason Moran. He is also a former member of Max Roach's renowned percussion ensemble, M'Boom. His impressive resume features a discography of more than 45 recordings, tours and performances all over the globe and endorsement deals with Pro-Mark drumsticks, Remo drum heads and Zildjian cymbals.
