Chuck D, Herb Boyd (Amsterdam News), Chris McElroen (co-founder of Classical Theatre of Harlem), lawyer Michael Tarif Warren, Harlem ministers Rev. Earl Kooperkamp and Fr. Luis Barrios are all on the host committee for this rare gathering at the Schomburg Center in Harlem on June 12. The evening, produced by Revolution Books, will feature selections from the film of a talk by Bob Avakian (leader of the Revolutionary Communist Party), along with performances by Staceyann Chin (Def Poetry Jam, Broadway), actor/comic Aladdin, and a jazz ensemble featuring Reggie Workman, James Spaulding, Roy Campbell, Michael Wimberly and special guests.

Cornel West's comments on Avakian's memoir From Ike to Mao and Beyond speak to why he is drawing interest from such diverse quarters: “Bob Avakian is a long distance runner in the freedom struggle against imperialism, racism and capitalism. His voice and witness are indispensable in our efforts to enhance the wretched of the earth. And his powerful story of commitment is timely."
