GANG STARR RAPPER PASSES AWAY AFTER BATTLING CANCER

Guru

Famed rapper Guru, one half of the seminal hip hop duo Gang Starr along with DJ Premier, passed away yesterday after a long battle with cancer. He was 43 years old.

Originally born Keith Elam, Guru achieved notoriety as a member of Gang Starr, appearing on classic albums No More Mr. Nice Guy, Step in the Arena, Daily Operation, Hard to Earn, Moment of Truth, and The Ownerz. He was also responsible for the highly popular Jazzmatazz series.

After suffering a cardiac arrest in February, the rapper slipped into a coma from which he later awoke. He eventually passed away on April 19.

There is an alleged deathbed note that was released by Guru's longtime producer Solar that was supposedly penned by Guru before passing. In it he speaks about Premier: “I do not wish my ex-DJ to have anything to do with my name likeness, events tributes etc. I had nothing to do with him in life for over seven years and want nothing to do with him in death. Solar has my life story and is well informed on my family situation, as well as the real reason for separating from my ex-DJ."

You can read the entire alleged note here.
