Chicago jazz and soul singer and winner of the Montreux Voice Competition 2011 Sarah Marie Young will record a full length album consisting of soulful songs with an R&B influence. The album will be produced by Marijn Kooy, owner of SnipRecords, and released by his label as high resolution download early Fall 2014.

Young is a well known vocalist in the Chicago jazz scene. When Quincy Jones heard her sing at the Swiss Montreux Voice Competition in 2011 he exclaimed “this girl can sing!” Young writes her own songs and lyrics, often in close cooperation with pianist Stu Mindeman. Her other band members include bassist Bryan Doherty and drummer Neal Wehman.

By winning the Montreux Competition she was presented with the opportunity to record her first album. The result was ‘Too Many Februaries’, released in the summer of 2013, consisting of mostly originals melding authentic soulful influences of jazz, R&B, pop and folk. Her new album will also consist of originals, the sound being closer to R&B and soul than jazz.

“I stumbled upon a YouTube video of Sarah and was immediately in love with her voice”, says Marijn Kooy. “It’s not easy to find a singer that can blow me away, but when I heard her sing I knew we could create a great sound. After a brief email exchange and a few pleasant Skype meetings I am happy to announce that we’ll record an album together. Her American songwriting and my European recording approach will most definitely result in an interesting sound.”

The album will be released as a high resolution (96kHz/24bit) download. SnipRecords releases all her albums as download only, focussing on high resolution. The music will be distributed via the website of the label and various well known download platforms, ranging from high resolution 96kHz 24bit WAV, FLAC and ALAC to 320kBps MP3. The album will include a digital booklet complemented by an iPad app with extra features.
