On 19th June 2008, independent label Shandon Records release the second CD by the Dublin, Ireland pairing of violinist David MacKenzie & pianist Josh Johnston. They take the swing jazz of Stephan Grappelli as their starting point but add elements of blues and Latin jazz to create a refreshing mix of original compositions, thirteen of which make up this album.
The new CD Notes Home is an advance from their previous CD (A Minor Happiness - 2004). It was recorded by sound engineer Brian Masterson and features supporting musicians Stephen McFarlane (electric guitar), Andrew Csibi (double bass) and Robbie Harris (percussion).
The title? Many of David's pieces were composed on his holidays in Europe, so listen for the relaxing echoes of the South of France and Italy in his brief breaks from a busy orchestral year. These are his Notes Home.
David & Josh are touring to promote the new CD. They launch it in Cabinteely House (Dun Laoghaire) this Thursday 19th June and they will be playing live across Ireland in July - details to follow.

David McKenzie:
A concert violinist, whose 25-year career has seen him hold posts in orchestras in Wales, England, Holland & Ireland. He is Principal Second Violin in the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and has given many recitals and performances. He also composes, writing much of his & Josh's repertoire, and also composes for theatre and film, various productions recently receiving debuts in the United States and Ireland.
Josh Johnston:
Josh studied Popular Music in the University of Salford, and graduated as a pianist, band leader and composer. He has performed widely, both as accompanist and soloist. He worked with singer/songwriter Roesy for 7 years and has appeared on stage and record with Kla, Declan O'Rourke, Irish tenor Karl Scully and others. He is recording a rock/jazz CD to be released next year. He is the organist at the Unitarian Church in Dublin.
