Internationally renowned actor and activist Danny Glover and legendary recording artist and music producer David Rudder will host a fundraiser at Brooklyn hot spot Deity Lounge (368 Atlantic Avenue between Hoyt & Bond) on Monday, April 19th at 7PM. Billed as Cocktails & Conversation, the event will benefit Brooklyn's own Something Positive Dance Company. A portion of the evening's proceeds will be donated to the Haitian Earthquake relief efforts.

In addition to Glover and Rudder, the event's host committee includes Schomburg Center Chief, Dr. Howard Dodson; Celebrity makeup artist, Sam Fine; Alvin Ailey dancer and associate producer of Disney's The Lion King on Broadway, Aubrey Lynch II; Philanthropist, Danny Simmons; BET Producer and Entertainment Lawyer, Nathan Hale Williams; and author, Akoshia Yoba. Cocktails & Conversation will raise money to help fund Something Positive as they continue to enrich the local community through their public performances and educational programs.

Founded by cultural icon, the late Cheryl Byron, Something Positive has performed an original repertoire at venues including the African Burial Ground National Monument, American Museum of Natural History, Dwyer Cultural Center, Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. In 2007, Something Positive had the honor of being the only performing company invited to commemorate the official unveiling of the African Burial Ground National Monument.

Comprised of more than 40 dancers, singers and musicians, Something Positive is one of the premiere performing arts companies in New York City, continually praised for “successfully combining art and culture with entertainment." Something Positive has conducted theater, dance, music and costuming workshops and educational programs for more than 250,000 youth and 300,000 community members over the last decade.

Tickets to this event are $25 in advance and $35 at the door. For further event information or to RSVP, contact Something Positive via e-mail at [email protected] or via telephone at 347-600-2189.
