“...Ms. Scheinman is a killer player... She has the street musician's trick of getting attention with the pure power of a single, perfect note." - The New York Times

“Ms. Scheinman's compositions carry within them the mystery, history, heartbreak, and humor of the American experience as lived through one at the margins of culture, race, ideology, style, and spirituality." - All Music Guide

“...when [Jenny Scheinman] played here with jazz drummer Scott Amendola a few months back, blending with guitarists Jeff Parker and Nels Cline, she knocked me (and a couple hundred others) out." - Chicago Reader

Critically-acclaimed violinist and emerging Americana vocalist Jenny Scheinman will perform in select Northeast markets this August with her new quartet featuring Nels Cline, Jim Black and Todd Sickafoose. Jenny Scheinman and Grammy nominated producer and prolific NYC sideman Tony Scherr will complete the Summer run as a duo opening for Austin based honky-tonk/country music pioneer Joe Ely (The Flatlanders).

Voted the #1 Rising Star Violinist for five consecutive years (2003 -2007) by DownBeat magazine's Critics' Polls, Jenny Scheinman's audacious string work is catching the attention of top music critics, Grammy Award-winning artists and fans alike. After moving to New York City in 1999, her Bay Area ties with producer Lee Townsend (Bill Frisell, John Scofield, Kelly Joe Phelps) and musicians Lee Alexander (Norah Jones) and Adam Levy (Norah Jones) soon led to her appearances on several internationally celebrated recordings including Norah Jones' Come Away With Me (2002, Eight Grammy Awards) and Bill Frisell's Unspeakable (2004 Grammy for Best Contemporary Jazz Album). Most recently, Scheinman penned all the string arrangements for Lucinda Williams' new album, West.

Amidst recording sessions for both her much-anticipated fourth full-length instrumental record and debut vocal release (the two titles are due out in early 2008), Scheinman hits the road with Wilco's lead-guitar genius Nels Cline, “downtown" NYC drum kingpin Jim Black and longtime Ani DiFranco collaborator/bassist Todd Sickafoose. The upcoming August dates mark their first tour together as a quartet, although they've appeared alongside one another in varying ensembles over the years. Scheinman, Cline and Sickafoose initially became acquainted in the late 90's as they all were integral members of the Scott Amendola Band. Scheinman has since worked with Cline, whom Rolling Stone magazine recently pegged as one of the “Top 20 New Guitar Gods," both on stage and in the studio with Carla Bozulich. Cline is set to release his latest Nels Cline Singers recording effort, Draw Breath (Cryptogramophone), this June 26, 2007. As for Jim Black, Scheinman says, “Hands down, Black is the most exciting drummer to see live." His musical brilliance caught her attention several years back with a life changing show she witnessed in San Francisco with Dave Douglas' ensemble, Tiny Bell Trio. Shortly after moving to NYC, Scheinman landed in a band with the underground drum legend, and after some years, they once again hit the stage together.

Two cardinal albums rest on the near horizon for Scheinman. Her follow-up to 12 Songs (Cryptogramophone) features Bill Frisell, Jason Moran, Doug Weiselman, Ron Miles, Kenny Wollesen, Tim Luntzel and a chamber string orchestra. The mix of ambitious songs eminently acknowledge the improvisatory nature of her music, and fluidly interchange between arching landscape-esque pieces, hard groove, comedic compositions and her farthest-reaching jazz arrangements to date. For her vocal debut, an impromptu venture for the esteemed violinist, she partners with producer/guitarist Tony Scherr. The release will highlight original compositions, old-time country/folk standards and some slightly more obscure covers including Tom Waits' “Johnsburgh Illinois," Jelly Roll Morton's “Winin' Boy," Bob Dylan's “Never Wrote A Letter To My Home," Willie Nelson's “I'm Falling In Love Again," Lucinda Williams' “King of Hearts" and Jimmy Reed's “Shame, Shame, Shame." Scheinman and Scherr have been premiering their latest endeavor together at various NYC hotspots, and just got off the road hitting Midwest markets with The Flatlanders.

A collaboration of champion innovators from both worlds of jazz and Americana music, Scheinman and her quartet will showcase tracks from her previous three albums, and will introduce several newly sketched instrumental tunes. The upcoming opening dates with Joe Ely will spotlight Scheinman on vocals and violin, and Tony Scherr on electric guitar. The duo, who first met through their supportive roles backing Bill Frisell, will perform bygone standards and original songs, taking a step closer to the timeless music of the American heartland.
