Continuum, A Journey Through Jazz
Episode 16--"Satchmo Summerfest," Part 1

Hosted and Produced by J. Scott Fugate, “The Jazz Evangelist"

As always, the show is free, absolutely legal, fun for the whole family, and available for listening right now, right here.

It's almost time for my annual trip to New Orleans to attend the Satchmo Summerfest--a yearly celebration of Louis Armstrong's birth, life, and music . . . which in turn is a celebration of the city of New Orleans itself--the culture, history, food, and all the marvellous multifaceted music and musicians the city has produced over the past century.

It is always a refreshing time of renewal as I reboot my spirit by linking it directly into the birthplace of Jazz and the seat of American culture, and thus I want to share the experience with you! So, grab a bowl of gumbo, open your umbrella and get ready to Second Line!

We go from the old to the new . . . starting with the progenitor of Jazz, Satchmo himself, and moving on to those he influenced, who will be performing as part of this year's Satchmo Summerfest--artists such as Shamarr Allan, Henry Butler, Irvin Mayfield, Ellis Marsalis, Jason Marsalis, Rebirth Brass Band, Storyville Stompers, and Donald Harrison.

Actually, in this episode I only get as far as the opening night of the Satchmo Fest, covering a few of the artists featured in the Club Strut on Frenchman Street. . . so, I will need to continue with this theme next week so I can include some of the 48 different artists who will be providing free concerts on four stages at the Old Mint in the French Quarter over August 7 & 8.

So, meet me in New Orleans--or just listen to the podcast--and laissez le bon temps rouler!

Please keep those questions, discussions, comments and requests coming! Feel free to write to me at [email protected]
