His quintet performs music that combines elaborate formal schemes with unmistakably urban rhythmic devices and has been recognized as one of today's truly original creative ensembles by publications such as The Wire, The New York Times, and The Village Voice, as well as by National Public Radio. 8:30PM GNU VOX: THE MUSIC OF SAM SADIGURSKY
(Monika Heidemann, Voice;Heather Masse, Voice;Becca Stevens, Voice;Sam Sadigursky, Saxes, Clarinet and Compositions;Pete Rende, Piano;Eivind Opsvik, Bass;Tommy Crane, Drums) Since moving to Brooklyn in 2002, Sam appears at venues all over the city and around the country. He has twice been the recipient of an ASCAP Foundation Young Composer Award and was a young artist at the 2002 Ravinia Jazz Festival. An accomplished flutist and clarinetist, he has played in the pits of numerous Broadway shows, was featured on the score for the 2002 flim release “Seeing Other People," and has collaborated with composers on modern dance commissions and music for live dramatic works. Among others, he has recently performed with the Mingus Orchestra, Lucia Pulido, Chita Rivera, Edmar Casteneda, Ben Monder, and Eldar Djangirov at venues around New York, including the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), the Blue Note, Smalls, Tonic, Jazz Standard, 55 Bar, and Radio City Music Hall.

This concert features poetry set to original music by Sam Sadigursky. Some of the poets whose work he set to music include: Audre Lorde, Czeslaw Milosz, and Sylvia Plath. (Anat Fort, piano, composer;Ed Schuller, bass;Roland Schneider, drums;Perry Robinson, clarinet) “A Long Story" is the name of Anat Fort's long-awaited new cd on ECM Records. It features Perry Robinson on clarinet, Ed Schuller on bass and the legendary Paul Motian on drums playing Anat's music. The band, senza Paul Motian (replaced with great drummer Roland Schneider who has played in Anat's trio since 1999) is about to tour Europe extensively in February.
