Boosey & Hawkes is proud to announce that it has extended its publishing agreement with the legendary Chick Corea, one of the most influential and prolific composers of our time. Under the agreement, Boosey & Hawkes will continue to be the exclusive agent for both existing works (from 1995 forward) and forthcoming compositions, identifying opportunities for synchronization placement in television programs, films and commercials, handling commissions, and licensing for choreographic uses of his compositions. Boosey & Hawkes has represented Corea's catalogue since 2006.

While Chick Corea first gained notice for his work with Miles Davis's ensembles of the late 1960's, he quickly established himself as a groundbreaking leader. Since heeding the solo calling in 1966 with his critically acclaimed debut, Tones for Joan's Bones, Corea has been at the forefront of jazz, both as a renowned pianist forging new ground with his acoustic jazz bands and as an electric keyboardist experimenting with deepening and expanding the sound of fusion. His pioneering groups such as Return to Forever and the Elektric Band have taken jazz to a whole new level of popularity and appreciation. His catalog ranges from innovative piano pieces to large-scale classical concert works, from straight-ahead jazz to avant-garde explorations, hard-hitting fusion, and world music. Corea's career resume teems with accolades, including more than 50 GRAMMY nominations and fourteen GRAMMY Awards. In 2005, Corea was honored with the prestigious Award for the Piano Festival Ruhr in Germany, the first time the honor was granted to a jazz pianist; and in 2006, he became an NEA Jazz Master, the highest honor the U.S. bestows on jazz musicians. Corea is also the recipient of the Frankfurt Music Prize.

Corea's Piano Concerto #2 - The Continents was commissioned by the Mozart Jahr Wien as part of their celebrations of the 250th anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's birth. Composed for solo piano and chamber orchestra, Corea's Piano Concerto #2 received its world premiere July 1, 2006 at the Vienna State Opera House and was performed by The Chick Corea Chamber Orchestra comprising of members from the Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, joined by the composer's own quartet. Following the world premiere in Vienna, Corea toured his concerto throughout Europe and Canada, including performances in Italy, Turkey, Montreal, Germany, Spain, and Amsterdam.

Voted the Number #1 Album of the Year on XM Radio and the winner of two GRAMMY awards, The Ultimate Adventure (Stretch 2006) was lauded as Corea's “most adventurous album in years" (NPR). In December 2006 Corea recorded yet another GRAMMY-winning album, The Enchantment (Concord 2007), a remarkable duo outing with banjo extraordinaire Bla Fleck. Later that year the artist stretched his creative reach further with the GRAMMY-winning recording, The New Crystal Silence (ECM 2007), the dazzling duo partnership with Gary Burton that celebrated the 35th anniversary of their first collaboration. The biggest Chick Corea news of 2008 was the reuniting of the classic Return to Forever (RTF) lineup of guitarist Al Di Meola, bassist Stanley Clarke and drummer Lenny White. It marked the first time they played together as a group in 25 years. Before embarking on the album's eagerly anticipated world tour, Concord Records released the two-CD set, The Anthology: Return to Forever, which gathered together for the first time the best of RTF's classic albums, completely remixed and remastered. The RTF tour circled the globe before concluding in August. In the same year, Corea was commissioned by the the Istituto Musicale Sammarinese to compose a collection of piano compositions, Imaginings, for the International Piano Competition of the Republic of San Marino.

Another monumental 2008 event was the formation of Five Peace Band, a new Corea project and 2-CD set (Concord 2009), created with the great jazz guitarist John McLaughlin. As young jazz artists, they both did stints with the legendary Miles Davis and appeared together on the groundbreaking jazz/rock/funk classic Bitches Brew. Collaborating together for the first time, Corea and McLaughlin have taken a new musical leap, presenting highly creative music with Kenny Garrett on saxophone, Christian McBride on bass and Vinnie Colaiuta on drums.

Says John Minch, Managing Director, Boosey & Hawkes worldwide and Director Business Development Imagem Group: “We are delighted to have this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to Chick Corea. Our jazz strand has grown significantly since we inaugurated the program with Corea in 2006, and we look forward to many years working with the finest in jazz."

Says Chick Corea: “I'm very happy to have my compositions cared for by the very musical team at Boosey and Hawkes, and I'm honored to be a part of such an illustrious list of fellow composers."

Chaka Khan, Jean-Luc Ponty and Bill Connors will take the stage with Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke and Lenny White at the Hollywood Bowl on September 2 for one show only, commencing Corea, Clarke & White's first worldwide trio tour. Corea has been invited by hip-hop supergroup The Roots to sit in with them on NBC's “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon." The show airs October 6th on NBC.

Boosey & Hawkes launched its jazz initiative in 2006 by hiring its first-ever jazz expert, Adina Williams, and now represents composers David Benoit, Chick Corea, Paquito D'Rivera, Vernon Duke, Andrew Hill, and Wynton Marsalis, as well as the works of Charles Mingus through Jazz Workshop, Inc. Boosey & Hawkes also proudly represents legendary jazz imprint Blue Note Records for synchronization of its master recordings on a global basis and serves as worldwide agents for the historic Second Floor Music catalogue, which features some of the best-known compositions of the bop and post-bop eras. Most recently, Boosey & Hawkes announced its representation of Savoy Label Group, home to veteran jazz label, Savoy Jazz, for synchronization on a worldwide basis.
