Teen-age musicians from across the Phoenix metropolitan area are being featured with local pros for the annual “Catch A Rising Star" summer concert series presented by Jazz in Arizona.

The series pairs up-and-comers with established Valley jazz artists performing at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Kerr Cultural Center, 6110 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, 480-596-2660. The concerts are co-presented by Jazz in AZ and Kerr with support from the Scottsdale Arts Council.

The series includes: June 11, Danielle Cooke Trio, Mike Kocour Trio; June 18, Jacob Sieckman Quartet, Dan Delaney-Chris Stewart Quartet; June 25, Vince Kaufman Group, Dave Schmidt Quartet; July 2, Jordan Tompkins Quartet, Armand Boatman's Bebop Revolution; July 9, Paul Eirik Melhus Quartet, Lucas Pino Quintet. The first concert on June 4 presented Pietsch-Fuzz Septet and Barb Catlin Quartet. Admission is $12.50 for adults and $7.50 for students and seniors.

“Audiences love these energy-charged performances," said Stan Rader, president of Jazz in AZ. “They bring out the best in emerging artists and challenge their veteran counterparts for audience response. The 'Catch A Rising Star' series is a great opportunity to get acquainted with some of our finest local jazz artists and to support young up-and-coming players."
