New York City: Singer, composer and instrumentalist Carlinhos Brown was chosen to lead the 26th Brazilian Day, September 5, 2010, in New York City. After last year's success of the 'Cleansing of 46th Street'—the street also known as Little Brazil, Brown once again this year headlines the main stage event at 43rd Street and Avenue of the Americas (6th Ave.), with expected 1.5 million fans. In addition to his New York appearance, Brown will also headline the first edition of Brazilian Day in Madrid, Spain, on September 11.

Superstar Carlinhos Brown is planning surprise guest performances by artists from different parts of the world for the show. With his band of 10 musicians, including horns, bass, guitar, drums, keyboards and percussion, Brown brings to the United States the best of Bahian and Brazilian music. They will perform some of their biggest hits including “Maria Caipirinha," “Ashansú," as well as reinterpretations of hits from “Tribalistas" and “Velha Infância."

Brazilian Day: Madrid

Known as “Carlito Marron" in Spain, Carlinhos Brown will also be present in Madrid's Brazilian Day. This will be the inaugural annual event in the country and takes place on September 11, Plaza España, from 12-10 p.m. In 2004 and 2005, Brown promoted Spain's first street carnivals outside Brazil with his trio elétrico (trucks equipped with high power sound system, carrying performing bands.) He drew 4 million people in Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla.

With five solo CDs, two DVDs and over 400 compositions, Carlinhos Brown emerged from a humble neighborhood in Salvador, Bahia, to stir, excite and enchant the world. An artist with vast international acclaim, he has received several international awards: the “12 Months, 12 Causes of Telecinco" (Spain / 2007); three Latin Grammys (USA / 2003, 2004 and 2006); the Goya Award (Spain / 2005); and several more including the “Messenger of Truth," title by the United Nations (UN).

A passionate activist and advocate for social projects, he created in Candeal, his birth district in Salvador, “Tá Rebocado," an urbanization and sanitation project. In 2002, it received the UN / UN-Habitat Certificate of Best Practices in Human Settlements Programme. Brown also created the umbrella organization, Associação Pracatum Ação Social. While known as one of Bahia's best music schools, the Pracatum is also a resource center that offers professional courses in fashion, sewing, and recycling. It also promotes many aspects of cultural studies including language courses and capoeira workshops. The projects have many major partners such as Brazil's Ministries of Education and Labor and UNESCO.

Today, Brown is one of the most popular and respected Brazilian artists in the world, especially throughout Spain, France, Italy and Germany. Of prodigious creativity and innovation, Brown's compositions have been translated in various languages. The artist has collaborated with Norah Jones, Black Eyed Peas, Carlos Santana, Ricky Martin, Lee Ritenour, Bill Laswell, Wayne Shorter, Jovanotti, Sergio Mendes, Angelique Kidjo, Kazufumi Miyazawa, Omara Portuondo, Ornella Vanoni, among so many more.
