AUGUST 1, 2005 (New Orleans) —NEA Jazz Master and pianist McCoy Tyner performs at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans on Thursday, September 1, for two shows, 7 and 9pm. His trio will include Charnett Moffett on bass and Eric Kamau Gravatt on drums.
Tyner’s performance kicks off the CACs second year as a NEA Jazz Masters on Tour presenter. In 2004, the National Endowment for the Arts selected the CAC among several not-for-profit presenting organizations in the country to receive a grant award to support the NEA Jazz Masters on Tour series.

About McCoy Tyner McCoy Tyner's powerful, propulsive style of piano playing was an integral part of the John Coltrane Quartet in the early 1960s and influenced countless musicians that followed him. His rich chord clusters continue to be copied by many young jazz pianists. He is, according to the All Music Guide, “the most influential pianist in jazz of the past 50 years." Tyner was named a NEA Jazz Master in 2002.
About NEA Jazz Masters on Tour: NEA Jazz Masters award recipients are identified by the NEA as living legends of jazz – an original American art form. NEA Jazz Masters on Tour is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts sponsored by Verizon in partnership with Arts Midwest. Additional support is provided by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation through a grant to Chamber Music America. The series is co-presented by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival & Foundation, Inc and supported locally by Harrah's New Orleans. In 2004, the CAC began participating in this prestigious program, operated by the NEA since 1982. Additional 2005-06 season performances include Paquito D’Rivera, Abbey Lincoln and one TBA.
