UNDERGROUND WORKS
May 2011 @ Sycamore
Curated by the Brooklyn Jazz Underground

Two artist-run jazz organizations based in Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Jazz Underground and Connection Works, co-produce a weekly jazz series called UNDERGROUND WORKS. Performances take place every Sunday evening at Sycamore in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn. The series is generally curated by a different individual member each month, however, in celebration of the BJU's 5th Anniversary, May will be curated by and feature all of the members of the Brooklyn Jazz Underground. Two of the Sundays will premiere new music written for a commissioning grant they received from the Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by the Brooklyn Arts Council. The commissioning project is called, “A Portrait Of Brooklyn" which will consist of Brooklyn inspired music by each BJU member performed by the Brooklyn Jazz Underground Ensemble.
