CELEBRATING THE 5th MIRI INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL: MAY 14-15

The Miri International Jazz Festival (MIJF) 2010 promises to deliver another exciting event with a wide range of jazz genres lined up to entertain an expected eight thousand visitors to this town in the beautiful region of Sarawak, Malaysia.

Organised by the Sarawak Tourism Board the festival will be held at the Pavilion of Parkcity Everly Hotel in Miri on May 14 and 15, 2010. Festival goers will be treated to a roster of international jazz artists playing blues, fusion, world, smooth and Latino beat.

A festival highlight is the appearance of legendary blues harmonica player James Cotton. Now in his 66th year playing the blues, Cotton ranks alongside BB King and Buddy Guy as one of the last of the great bluesmen. This is a rare treat to witness a bluesman who has played with Sonny Boy Williamson, Howlin Wolf and Muddy Waters.

Drummer Michael Shrieve, whose drum solo drove half a million people wild at the Woodstock festival as part of Santanas band, will lead his band Spellbinder through an exciting jazz fusion set.

There is something for everyone at Miri International Jazz Festival; versatile pianist Amina Figarova, the Brazilian influenced violin of Ricardo Herz and guitarist Jeremy Tordjman will all bring a touch of virtuosity to the festival.

SimakDialog from Indonesia promises a fascinating fusion of traditional gamelan music, ancient temple music, jazz, Sunda rhythms and even psychedelica. Natasha Patamapangs Mellow Motif delivers a sophisticated blend of jazz standards, bebop and Brazilian grooves, and for fans of old style jazz played with gusto, Norbert Susemihls New Orleans All Stars will swing the Pavilion stage.
