Blue Note Records earned ten nominations in the 50th Annual GRAMMY Awards for releases by artists including Terence Blanchard, Bill Charlap, Charles Tolliver, and Jeff Lorber.
The nominations were announced this morning in Los Angeles, and the awards ceremony will take place Sunday, February 10, 2008, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and will be broadcast on CBS.
Composer/Trumpeter Terence Blanchard received two nominations this year in the Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album category for A Tale of God's Will (A Requiem for Katrina) and in the Best Jazz Instrumental Solo category for his solo in the composition Levees again from the album A Tale of God's Will (A Requiem for Katrina). Also nominated in the Best Jazz Instrumental Solo category, was pianist Hank Jones for his performance on the track “Lullaby" from the album Kids: Live at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola an album of duets with saxophonist and previous Grammy winner Joe Lovano.
Lovano and Jones' Kids: Live at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola also garnered a nomination for Best Jazz Instrumental Album along with pianist Bill Charlap, for the album Live at the Village Vanguard. Rounding out the jazz nominations this year, were keyboardist Jeff Lorber's album He Had a Hat nominated for Best Contemporary Jazz Album, and trumpeter Charles Tolliver's With Love for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album, his first nomination.
In the category of Best Engineered Album, Blue Note garnered two nominations. Engineer Tucker Martine earned a nomination for his work on Floratone's album Floratone which also featured Matt Chamberlain, Bill Frisell, and Lee Townsend. Also nominated in the best engineering category were Tchad Blake, Cameron Craig, Emery Dobyns and Jimmy Hogarth for their work on Suzanne Vega's Beauty and Crime.
