Just out, the DVD: “Bill Mays Trio, Live at WVIA"
Filmed before an in-studio television audience last year, the DVD features Bill Mays' long-standing trio with bassist Martin Wind and drummer Matt Wilson. Three roaming cameras provide beautiful coverage of the trio at work: Martin's virtuoso pizzicato and arco work, Matt's wide, unusual array of drum and percussion toys, Bill inside the piano with strings strummed, plucked and muted (for you purists, he also use the ivories!). This is serious fun--by one of the most interactive trios on today's jazz scene. The one-hour program* features seven of Bill's compositions and a really outer-limits version of “Darn That Dream"!
The DVD package also includes a bonus CD with sheet music (as PDF documents) of five Mays originals from the broadcast.
