"Best of 2011" Radio channels from AccuJazz.com

Published:
Savvy jazz listeners spent much of December poring over hundreds of “Best of 2011" lists, left only to wonder what the vaunted music actually sounded like. To satisfy curious listeners and highlight the excellent music, AccuJazz Internet radio has created a Best of 2011 channel playing the most critically-acclaimed jazz albums released last year. The streaming channel is free to listen to and available 24 hours a day.

The channel's programming is based on Francis Davis' Rhapsody.com critics poll (formerly of the Village Voice), which asked 122 jazz critics to list their top albums of the year. Therefore, listeners will hear Sonny Rollins' first-place-winning “Road Shows Vol. 2" more often than Starlicker's “Double Demon," which came in 58th place. Filling out the playlist is a strikingly diverse line-up of albums including the modern jazz/R&B hybrid of Terri Lyne Carrington's “Mosaic Project," the high-energy minimalist post-bop of JD Allen's “Victory!" and plenty of solo piano albums, including those by Keith Jarrett, Craig Taborn, Matthew Shipp and others.

AccuJazz program director Lucas Gillan has also made his own “Best of 2011" list, and a “Staff Picks" channel to go along with it. Gillan's numbered list is posted at the AccuJazz AccuBlog, and the channel is available at AccuJazz.com.
