The channel's programming is based on Francis Davis' Rhapsody.com critics poll (formerly of the Village Voice), which asked 122 jazz critics to list their top albums of the year. Therefore, listeners will hear Sonny Rollins' first-place-winning Road Shows Vol. 2" more often than Starlicker's Double Demon," which came in 58th place. Filling out the playlist is a strikingly diverse line-up of albums including the modern jazz/R&B hybrid of Terri Lyne Carrington's Mosaic Project," the high-energy minimalist post-bop of JD Allen's Victory!" and plenty of solo piano albums, including those by Keith Jarrett, Craig Taborn, Matthew Shipp and others.
AccuJazz program director Lucas Gillan has also made his own Best of 2011" list, and a Staff Picks" channel to go along with it. Gillan's numbered list is posted at the AccuJazz AccuBlog, and the channel is available at AccuJazz.com.
