Berklee Piano Week 2002 To Feature Associate Professor Joanne Brackeen And Visiting Artists Larry Goldings And Alon Yavnai

BOSTON, February 28, 2002 -- Berklee College of Music will present Piano Week 2002 from Monday, March 4, through Thursday, March 7, 2002. The annual series will feature concerts and clinics by visiting artists, Berklee's world-renowned piano faculty, and some of the college's top student pianists. All events are free except Tuesday and Wednesday night concerts in the wheelchair-accessible Berklee Performance Center. BPC events are $5.00 -- $2.00 for seniors. Piano Week will feature Associate Professor and Arkadia recording artist Joanne Brackeen performing with a quartet at the David Friend Recital Hall, 921 Boylston Street, Boston, on Monday, March 4, at 7:00 p.m. Also that day, Visiting Artist Alon Yavnai will present a clinic in the Friend Recital Hall at 1:00 p.m. Winner of the 1996 Great American Jazz Piano Competition, Yavnai has performed with, among others, Paquito D'Rivera and Freddie Hubbard. At 4:00 p.m. in the Friend Recital Hall, Associate Professor Jennifer Elowsky-Fox will present some of the Piano Department's finest students. And at 7:00 p.m. in the Berk Recital Hall, 1140 Boylston Street, Piano Assistant Professor Dave Limina will perform an organ concert.

Limina will also be featured on Tuesday, March 5, which has been designated “Organ Day." From 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Limina and Harmony Associate Professor Bruce Katz will present a multi-style Hammond organ show in the Berk Recital Hall, 1140 Boylston Street. From 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Visiting Artist Larry Goldings will present a Hammond Organ Master Class in the Berk Recital Hall. And Assistant Professor Matt Jenson will present an organ concert that evening at 7:00 p.m. in the David Friend Recital Hall.

On Tuesday evening at 8:15 p.m., Larry Goldings will present a concert at the Berklee Performance Center, 136 Massachusetts Avenue. Goldings is considered to be one of today's premier jazz organists, pianists, and composers. He has been a sideman on more than 40 CDs, with artists such as Jon Hendricks, John Scofield, Jim Hall, Michael Brecker, James Moody, and Carla Bley. Other events scheduled for Tuesday, March 5th include faculty performances in the David Friend Recital Hall by Eduardo Tancredi (1:00), and the Suzanna Sifter Jazz Quartet (4:00).

Wednesday, March 6 features performances in the David Friend Recital Hall by Piano faculty Ross Ramsey (4:00) and Suzanne Davis (7:00), as well as a clinic/performance in the Berklee Performance Center by Larry Goldings (1:00). At 8:15 p.m., a concert in the Performance Center will feature top piano students.

On Thursday, March 7, Boston Pops pianist and Professor Bob Winter will present a solo performance at 1:00 in the Berk Recital Hall, 1140 Boylston Street. And the David Friend Recital Hall will host Piano Department Chair Stephany Tiernan and her students at 4:00 and the Emmanuel Zambelli Scholarship recipient Mohan Sundararaj at 7:00 in a concert of classical music.
