A “BENEFIT FOR JAPAN" is being planned to be held at the Jazz Showcase this April... Here are the details from Chicago Jazz Bassist, Steven Hashimoto as they are shaping up so far:

“The events in Japan are almost too much for my mind to handle; nevertheless, I'm involved with organizing a benefit for victims of the triple disasters in Japan. It'll take place on Tuesday, April 12, at The Jazz Showcase. Wayne is donating the venue, as well as the evening's drink proceeds, and his employees are volunteering their time as well, and Andy's Music is providing some backline support.

I'm still finalizing the lineup, but it looks to be a great bill. Howard Levy, Paulinho Garcia, Barry Winograd, Fred Simon, Tatsu Aoki, Kalyan Pathak, Elizabeth Basta, Neal Alger, Zvonimir Tot, Dennis Luxion, Kathy Kelly, Shawn Maxwell, Chris Greene, Dean Rolando, Ken Takaoka, Pat Fleming, Kurt Schweiz, Rich Armandi, Mike Levin, Heath Chappell, Hiroshi Yasuda, Rick Shandling, Linard Stroud, Fernando Jones and Coco Elysses have signed on so far; both Mothra and Sueños will perform, and the Green Mill Quartet will act as house band for part of the evening.

I imagine there will be some surprise guests, and I'm still waiting to hear from some people; of course I'll keep you posted. 100% of the proceeds will go to aid organizations in Japan. I hope that you'll all mark the date down in your calendars. At this point I think doors will open at 5, the music will start at 6, and go until 10:30 or so. I think we're talking about a $30 suggested donation, but that's only a suggestion. If you can't afford it, give what you can, just give something. This ain't a free night of music, and all of the musicians are donating their time. Please feel free to bring your axes and play some music with us. Thanks to everyone. Giri. Look it up."
