Diller called for basic protection to ensure that anyone can publish and anyone can access whatever they'd like on the Internet. Diller said he is concerned that these companies want to set up a “tollbooth" on the Internet.
The FCC lost a ruling about its ability to regulate broadband, said Diller, and how it has said it wants some regulations to ensure “net neutrality." He said “the forces are gathering" to oppose this from the communications companies and think tanks they fund.
Diller, who used to run a television network, compared this situation to what happened to network TV. Years ago, there was a rule that prevented the television networks from producing their own content. When that was in effect, there were many successful independent producers. When that rule was abolished, soon the major network became the major providers of their own content.
