Barbara Sfraga is an adventurous and chance-taking singer, one who is not shy to take a potential warhorse and make it into something new. -- Scott Yanow, All Music Guide (4 1/2 stars)

...Sullivan plays not just the upright bass strings but the bass itself, throwing himself into the performance - not to draw the spotlight, but to impart a palpable joie de vive to go with his rhythmic, rippling (think Charlie Haden, somewhat) bass tones. -- JazzReview.com

Barbara Sfraga & Center Search Quest: Bass Artisan Christopher Dean Sullivan Soundrhythium Michael T.A. Thompson with Pianist/Vocalist Mala Waldron & Multi-Reedist Allen Won

Barbara Sfraga and Center Search Quest is an impressive ensemble that delivers unique and soulful compositions. Extremely well rehearsed, and at the same time leaving plenty of room for spontaneity, the group has much to offer. Their complex arrangements highlight the many talents of each musician. The fact they are all skilled vocalists allows them to take risks that reward the listener in heretofore unheard of ways. Christopher Sullivan (bass) and Michael T.A. Thompson (drums), the duo known as Center Search Quest, holds down this exceptionally crisp and tight group. The gifted Mala Waldron (piano) traverses the jazz terrain, from straight ahead to more experimental fare, with ease, inspiration and inventiveness. With a tasteful command of his musical vocabulary, Allen Won (tenor saxophone and flute) will certainly garner more attention and recognition in the near future. Barbara’s use of her impressive range and uncanny knack for placing just the right note at just the right moment is testimony to her sensitivity for and understanding of the jazz idiom. Her ability to accomplish this on her own terms, with her own sound and in her own way is what makes her worth listening to. -- Bryan Zoran, Staff Writer, JazzReview.com
