Initiation, the dynamic new Artists Recording Collective CD by pianist

Sumi Tonooka (pronounced To-NO-ka) and tenor saxophonist Erica Lindsay, showcases their shared skills as composers and bandleaders. Though they've been playing together since they first met in the spring of 1994, this is their first in-studio collaboration. “We wanted to document and reveal something of our musical dynamic together," says Tonooka.

Initiation features bassist Rufus Reid and the late drummer Bob Braye, both of whom were on Tonooka's previous trio release, Long Ago Today, which earned critical acclaim and a place on numerous top CDs of 2008 lists. Initiation will be released on January 12, 2010.

Some comments about the new “INITIATION" CD are coming in:

“This album will take you on quite a journey, from emotional ballads, to spiritual quests, to quirky blues, to deep swing and beyond. “ - Cathy Gruenfelder, Jazz Inside NY Magazine (Jan 11, 2010) | “It is a sense of a fearless voyage of discovery and, often, an informed abandon and spontaneity that defines Initiation." - Dan McClenaghan , All About Jazz (Jan 11, 2010) | “Two incredibly gifted women and their powerful music." - Rufus Reid, What's Spinning for... Rufus Reid by Corey Brown | NoTreble.com (Jan 08, 2010)

Special Event

Jazz Pianist, George Kahn Holds 8th Annual “50th Birthday Party and Jazz Bash" at Vitello's Thursday Evening, January 14th, 2010

Start the New Year on a high note...with an evening of great Jazz and a celebration for Jazz Pianist, George Kahn's 50th Birthday (again). For the first time, George Kahn, will bring his “West Coast" Jazz Quintet to VITELLO's with a special performance on Thursday evening, January 14th, with sets from 8-11 PM.

The George Kahn “West Coast “ Jazz Quintet will feature George on piano with an all-star band of LA studio musicians. Special guests will include: Rickey Woodard on sax, John Fumo on trumpet, Karl Vincent on bass, and M. B. Gordy on drums. Adding to the night's entertainment, we'll be expecting many guest musicians to drop in, including singers The Wright Combination and Heather Jakeman.

The George Kahn “West Coast" Jazz Quintet most recently performed at the Catalina Bar & Grill to a packed house and many raves about the event - the show was a benefit for PATH Ventures, the Los Angeles agency that assists the homeless. This event raised $11,400 for housing for the homeless.

George is currently touring to support his latest album, “Cover Up!", which has received outstanding reviews along with local and national radio airplay. In 2008, George won the coveted Chuck Niles Bebop Award at the Temecula Jazz Festival.

Special prizes will be awarded to people who have the most unusual story about George, so dig up some memories (no alien abduction stories...we've heard them all already) and join us for a night of great jazz and laughter.
