April Jazz at Charlie O's

April is Jazz Appreciation Month and we look forward to seeing you in April for great jazz performances.

A BIG birthday celebration for Jo-Ann the 3rd with Rickey Woodard, John Heard, Roy McCurdy and Lanny Hartley, a birthday celebration for Judy Wexler on the 26th, a birthday celebration for Don Menza on the 25th, a special evening with the Bill Cunliffe Quartet featuring John Chiodini (www.johnchiodini.com), the Ron Jones Jazz Orchestra Influence on the 13th, some Hot Latin Jazz with Francisco Aguabella on the 23rd, The Trio (Terry Trotter, Peter Erskine, Chuck Berghofer) returns on the 28th, and all of the finest jazz musicians in Los Angeles.

Our Monday performances in April include the Bruce Eskovitz Jazz Orchestra on the 6th, the Ron Jones Jazz Orchestra Influence on the 13th ($20 cash cover charge for this evening only), the Phil Norman Tentet on the 20th and the CJS Quintet featuring Chuck Johnson and James Smith on the 27th. Reservations suggested for these performances especially on the 13th.

Our Friday and Saturday line ups always feature terrific guests and they perform with the John Heard Trio (John Heard (www.heardworks.com), bass; Roy McCurdy or Dick Weller, drums, Lanny Hartley, Theo Saunders or Jon Mayer, piano. Our phenomenal lineup of guests this month include Rickey Woodward on the 3rd to help celebrate Jo-Ann's BIG birthday; Julie Kelly on the 4th, Justo Almario on the 10th, Azar Lawrence on the 11th, Doug Webb on the 17th, Plas Johnson (www.plasjohnson.com) on the 18th, Ron King on the 24th, and Don Menza on the 25th for a birthday celebration for Don. Reservations are highly recommended for all Friday and Saturday performances.

The outstanding Sunday line-up for April are the dueling guitars of Ron Anthony and Barry Zweig with John Belzaguy and Kendall Kay on the 5th, the Carl Saunders Sextet with the usual suspects on the 12th, the Littleton Brothers Quartet (Jeff, Don, Tom Catanzgio, sax, and Mehesh) on the 19th. Please be on hand on the 26th to celebrate Judy Wexler's birthday with Judy, Jeff Colella, Steve Hass and Chris Colangelo! Reservations suggested.

Our Tuesday performances include the Roger Neumann Quartet (Roger, Jake Hanna, Daave Koonse, Richard Simon) on the 7th, the Elliott Caine Quartet (Elliott, Gary Blumer, Bill Markus, Kenny Elliott) on the 14th, the Benn Clatworthy Quartet on the 21st and the return The Trio (Terry Trotter, Peter Erskine, Chuck Berghofer) (http://www.mamajazz.org/pages/biotrotter.html) (www.petererskine.com) (http://lostandsound.wordpress.com/2007/12/20/chuck-berghofer-and-his-most-famous-slide/) on the 28th Please make reservations for these Tuesday performances but especially for the 28th as Charlie O's is always packed when The Trio performs!

Our Wednesday guests include the Scott Whitfield Quintet (Scott, Roger Neumann, Roy McCurdy, Kevin Axt and Andy Langham) on the 1st, the Nolan Shaheed Quintet featuring Zane Musa on the 8th, the Theo Saunders Sextet (Theo, Zane Musa, Chuck Manning, David Dahlsten, Jeff Littleton and Tony Austin) on the 18th performing some great jazz, the Jack Sheldon California Cool Quartet on the 22nd, and the Tony Inzalaco Quintet (Tony, Benn Clatworthy, Nolan Shaheed, Chris Colangelo) on the 29th. The Thursday line-up features the always popular Emil Richards/Joe Porcaro Quartet (Emil, vibes, Joe, drums, Mike Lang, piano, Abe Laboriel, bass) on the 2nd, the great Bill Cunliffe Quartet featuring John Chiodini on the 9th, the Janis Mann Quartet is here with the amazing Jim Cox (great studio musician and performed in the Jim Carey hit The Majestic) and Roy McCurdy and John Gianelli on the 16th, Hot Latin Jazz with the Francisco Aguabella Jazz Ensemble on the 23rd, and the Pete Christlieb Quartet is here on the 30th. Reservations highly recommended for all Thursday performances.
