INTERNATIONAL WOMEN IN JAZZ, INC. (IWJ) is a non-profit organization committed to supporting women jazz artists and related professionals, and to fostering a greater awareness of the diverse contributions women make to jazz, worldwide. Through its programs, IWJ provides information and assistance to its members standing dedicated to actively ensuring a place for women as a vital part of the past, present and future of jazz. You are cordially invited to attend our Annual International Women in Jazz Meeting which will be held at 7:30PM on Monday, September 10, 2007 at Saint Peter's Church - 54th Street and Lexington Ave. in NYC.
This past year was a banner year for us. IWJ sponsored amazing seminars with some of the best in the business, co-sponsored our largest Women in Jazz Festival while constantly building membership through a much lifted presence as an organization. We service a very important community, and our plan is to continue to do so. A huge thank you to all the past, present, and future volunteers.
We understand more and more what it takes to get things done. Having a career in music is difficult and it is even more difficult to help others at the same time. Thus, we have a bit of a revolving door. We are looking for great people who are committed to continuing the work started 11 years ago by our own Cobi Narita.
We will have a booth at the Jazz Improv Convention in October 2007. Details will soon go out to the general membership re: procedures and fees for those who would like to participate. We are looking at better ways to structure the process in order to give more flexibility during participation. We will also have our Women In Jazz Festival 2008 during the first weekend in April (Jazz Appreciation Month)! We are now putting a new crew together to get this festival to the next level. We will get in touch with all members with details on how we will select talent from the organization, and all the many details that go into the success and positive spirit that this work requires. We thank all the leaders, volunteers and participants of our 2007 Festival.
Please, WE NEED YOU, your knowledge, ideas, spirit of volunteerism, individual and corporate sponsorship, tech knowledge and anything else of good support that you can bring to the organization.
