Appearing at Jazz Bridge in Collingswood! at the Collingswood Community Center (30 Collings Avenue in Collingswood, New Jersey) on November 1st is jazz bassist Andy Lalasis and his trio. One show at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10, $5 for students, and are only available at the door. For info: 610-745-3011.

Jazz Bridge, a 501C public charity that assists area jazz and blues musicians in crisis, is sponsoring this event and others in the Jazz Bridge in Collingswood! series.

For nearly 20 years, Andy Lalasis was the bassist who accompanied all the visiting headliners at the legendary Elaine’s, within Atlantic City’s fondly-remembered Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino. Those headliners included everyone from Keely Smith and Joanie Sommers to Billy Eckstine and Billy Daniels. Stars booked at Elaine's often stayed in town another week just to record with Lalasis and the house trio (featuring drummer Paul Jost and a number of great pianists). And a frequent visitor to Elaine's on his off nights? One Francis Albert Sinatra.

That’s because Andy Lalasis was—and is—a formidable, creative, joyous, inventive and flexible performer whose playing virtually defines what a bassist is supposed to be: the foundation of the band. Appearing with Lalasis are two supremely talented artists: the imaginative soloist and sensitive accompanist Tom Adams on piano, and the ever-versatile and always-swinging drummer Grant MacAvoy.
