New Jersey Jazz Society and the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University Announce American Jazz Hall of Fame Recipients

The New Jersey Jazz Society and the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University is pleased to announce the election of Terry Gibbs, Ahmad Jamal, Jimmy Smith, Claude “Fiddler" Williams, Gene Ammons, Bill Harris, Joe Mooney and Mel Torme to the American Jazz Hall of Fame. The AJHOF was established in 1982 to recognize individuals who have earned a special place in the history of jazz. Since the first class was elected in 1983, almost 200 jazz greats have been elected to the AJHOF. It has been the practice in recent years to present the AJHOF plaques to surviving members at appearances by them in the New York City Metro Area. At present, plans are in place to present their awards to Terry Gibbs at The Iridium Jazz Club in New York City on Friday, April 4th, and to Ahmad Jamal at the Community Theatre in Morristown, New Jersey on Saturday, April 5th.
