The German label ECM (Edition of Contemporary Music) was founded by Manfred Eicher in 1969. Since then, the label has released more than 1600 records of musicians from every corner of the world, including Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, and Ralph Towner, among others. In this book, the author gives us a cross-section of ECM’s greatness by analyzing 100 of the label’s most intriguing records.

Tyran Grillo holds a Ph.D. in Asian Studies from Cornell University. In addition to his academic pursuits, he travels the world as music journalist and photographer, fervently documenting a spectrum of artists and genres for various magazines and on his blog, Between Sound and Space.
