Cuban-Canadian, singer-songwriter Adonis Puentes is the lead vocalist on Master Percussionist Orestes Vilat's album It's About Time, recently nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in the category of BEST TRADITIONAL TROPICAL ALBUM. The milestone 10th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will be presented Nov. 5 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

This is thrilling news for Puentes who put voice to the album that has now been recognized by the Latin Recording Academy.

After spending a few months in Los Angeles breaking into the diverse and challenging music scene as a vocalist, songwriter and bandleader, Adonis was invited by Orestes Vilat and album Producer Rebeca Mauleon to sing a couple of songs on the album. Following the rehearsals in preparation for recording, producers felt his voice was the perfect fit for the Cuban Traditional album and he was asked to prepare to enter the studio to sing all the songs.

It's About Time is Orestes Vilat's debut as a bandleader. Vilat is one of the pioneers of the New York Salsa phenomenon and a Legendary figure in the Salsa scene as a member of the renowned Fania All Stars. The album is Salsa, infused with rich Afro-Cuban grooves and catchy hooks. Adonis who emigrated to Canada in 1998 and initially achieved fame with his twin brother Alex Cuba as a member of the, Juno nominated, Puentes Brothers, was well suited to Vilat's project having been born and raised in the Afro-Cuban and Son Traditions of Cuba. Living in Canada for the past 11 years Puentes also contributed a fresh contemporary sound with his outstanding vocals.

“After so many years out of Cuba it is a blessing to record an album that falls in the category of Traditional,” says Adonis Puentes. “I like to sing all different genres but the traditional Cuban music is the point I come from and always like to go back to. It was an honor to be a part of this project and to work with Orestes and all the other great cats involved.”

Adonis is currently touring in the US. His next performance in his homeland of Canada will be on October 30th for the arrival of the Olympic Torch in Victoria, BC.
