Two-thirds of 8tracks 30 million monthly listening hours are streams from indie labels and musicians. Now 8tracks has solidified their commitment to independent music with new partnerships and features that encourage the creation of indie based playlists.

Playlist based radio app 8tracks is launching the 8tracks Library and DJ Crate to help users discover and create playlists with music from independent artists. The Library will include over 6.5 million songs provided via new deals with INgrooves, CD Baby, Dim Mak and DashGo. Included are independent artists like Steve Aoki, James Vincent McMorrow, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros and more.

When listening to a playlist, if DJs favorite a song that is available from the Library, the song will be added to their Crate. When creating a playlist, a DJ can add songs from the Library or Crate to a playlist or upload tracks. A DJ can also search both the Library and Crate by artist name or song title. After finding a track, the DJ can drag and drop the song into a playlist.

“Our service is inspired by DJ culture, which traditionally has served as the way listeners discover new independent music,” said David Porter, CEO of 8tracks. “Today’s launch helps empower our community to create playlists from and build awareness around a fantastic base of independent music.”

Launched in August 2008, 8tracks has been profitable since 2012 under the leadership of founder and CEO, David Porter.
