6th Festival Internacional de Jazz de Barquisimeto

From October 1st till October 9th the most important International Jazz Festival will be celebrated.

Barquisimeto will become the Jazz capital of Venezuela for the 6th consecutive year. This event will bring together leading exponents from the local and international music scene on various galas, concerts, conferences, lectures and jam sessions.

The Opening Concert will be Saturday October 1st at 5:00 pm at the Grand Salon of the Trinitarias Suites Hotel with the performance of the Barquisimeto Big Band Jazz

For the last six years Barquisimeto has positioned itself has one of the most important places for Jazz performing in the continent, thanks to the work made by the team at the Fundacion Festival Internacional de Jazz de Barquisimeto that has returned to the Venezuela audience an increasingly selective scheduling of renowned local and international artists. Through its diverse stages musicians of the caliber of Mike Stern, Stanley Jordan, Claudia Acuna, Denise Reis, Adrian Iaies Trío, Fabio Paulo Celso Trío, Dave Samuels and his Caribbean Jazz Project, Edward Simon, Aquiles Báez, Gonzalo Teppa, Pablo Gil, Alexis Cárdenas, Leo Blanco, César Orozco, among others.

On this edition, the Festival Internacional de Jazz de Barquisimeto will hold three galas at the Juares Theater. The first gala will take place Friday October 7th at 7:00 pm and it will feature from USA, Super Trio: Jeff Berlin (Bass), Scott Henderson (Guitar) and Dennis Chambers (Drums) also, Carmelo Medina, a Venezuelan guitarist from Guaco's Band, and his Quartet.

The second gala will be on Saturday October 8th at 7:00pm. The opening act will be the French duet of Franck Amsallem & Mélanie Dahan who conjugate Love Songs and Jazz on their proposal. From New Orleans comes the Jason Marsalis' Quartet, led by drummer and vibraphonist Jason Marsalis with William Goble (Bass), David Potter (Drums) and Austin Johnson (Piano).

The third and final gala will be held Sunday October 9th at 5:00 pm featuring the Trío Colina Miralta Sambeat from Spain with Javier Colina (Contrabass) and Perico Sambeat (Sax). Also the Dutch-Argentinean band Tango Extremo: Tanya Schaap (Violin), Ben Van Den Dugen (Sax), Rob Van Kreeveld (Piano), Matías Pedrana (Bandoneon) and Adinda Meertins (Bass).

Besides the opening concert on Saturday October 1st at 5:00 pm at the Grand Salon of the Trinitarias Suites Hotel, there will be Jam Sessions, painting and photography exhibitions, conferences, workshops and free concerts with performers such as Edison Sabogal Quinteto, Trad Jazz Cuarteto, Percujazz, Wismer Jiménez Quinteto, Luis Enrique Silva Ceballos, Gaélica, Aquiles Báez, Ramón Chirinos, among others.

As in the previous edition, the Festival Internacional de Jazz de Barquisimeto, in agreement with various local and international institutions such as the Oficina de Música de Curitiba de Brasil, the Taller de Jazz de Caracas, and the Escuela de Música Moderna, Audio y Tecnología EMMAT de Bogota, will grant scholarships for musicians that are interested in studying out of the country.

The Fundacion Festival Internacional de Jazz de Barquisimeto, has the valuable cooperation of the Spanish Embassy, the Netherlands Embassy, the Agencia Española de Cooperacion Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID), the French Alliance, United State Embassy, public and private sponsors, this support increases each year with more companies that are committed to invest in culture.

The sixth edition of the Festival Internacional de Jazz de Barquisimeto will take place between October 1st and October 9th throughout Lara State capital. Tickets are on sale at Optica Laser and Restaurant Tiuna in Barquisimeto and on the website.
