3rd Annual 'Post' Charlie Parker Festival Open Mic/Jam Session at the Muhammad Salahuddeen Memorial Jazz Theatre (NYC)

On Sunday, August 29, 2010 the University of the Streeets (UOTS) will host it's 3rd Annual 'Post' Charlie Parker Jazz Festival Open Mic/Jam Session. UOTS has been an institution dedicated to supporting the jazz community for over four decades, offering legendary jazz figures, as well as youngsters a place to meet, rediscover old friends and colleagues, play and learn together. What a perfect way to honor the name of the legendary alto saxophonist Charlie Parker, who changed the entire direction of jazz in his day, and forever, with an evening of continuing jazz at the Muhammad Salahuddeen Memorial Jazz Theatre, just a few steps from Tompkins Square Park. The rhythm section features Richard Clements on piano, Eugene Muhammad on drums “Cool" Mike Fitzbenjamin on bass, Gene Ghee on tenor sax and others TBA.

Vocalists welcome.
Refreshments will be served.
Suggested donation: $10.
7PM-12 Midnight.

University of the Streets (UOTS) is a non-profit, educational organization, founded in 1969 by Muhammad Salahuddeen, and dedicated to addressing the educational, vocational and cultural needs of the community. Presently, under the direction of Saadia Salahuddeen, UOTS continues as a forerunner in establishing innovative approches to learning, offering culturally rich music and theatre presentations.
