34th Annual Paradise Valley Jazz Party

It is one of the longest running jazz event in the world according to Don Z. Miller who, with his late wife Sue, created the first Paradise Valley Jazz Party in 1978. Since the Millers conceived, produced, and underwrote this event, hundreds of the leading jazz artists in the world have appeared on the Paradise Valley Jazz Party stage including many legends of the jazz world . . . Joe Williams, Clark Terry, Zoot Sims, Diana Krall, Milt Hinton, and on and on.

Following a successful edition of the event in May of 2010, Miller recently announced the venue for the 2011 event, the main ballroom of the Embassy Suites Hotel Phoenix- Scottsdale, located at 4415 East Paradise Village Parkway,South in Phoenix, and the event dates, Saturday and Sunday, April 16th and 17th.

“Although there are tweaks to this exciting format from year to year, the format of the Paradise Valley Jazz Party is always that of an organized jam session", says Don Z. Miller. “Jazz Trios have always been one of the most exciting configurations in jazz. Two of the most exciting jazz trios in the history of jazz will appear at the 2011 party, . . . the Jeff Hamilton Trio (drummer/leader Jeff Hamilton, pianist, Tamir Hendelman, and bassist Cristoph Luty) and the John Clayton Trio (bassist/leader John Clayton, pianist (the son of John Clayton), Gerald Clayton, and drummer Lewis Nash) and vocalist/pianists John Proulx.

Over 25 national jazz arttists will appear during the weekend. As of this writing, some of the other stars of the jazz firmament who have signed on for this event are . . . trumpeter Bobby Shew from New Mexico, Los Angeles based guitarist Bruce Forman , and one of New Orleans favorite musicians drummer Herlin Riley.

Reserved seating badges for the Paradise Valley Jazz Party weekend which include lunch on Sunday cost $195. Session tickets are also available: $55. for Saturday afternoon (noon to 4:30 P.M.), $55. for Saturday night (8 P.M. to midnight), and $95. for Sunday (including lunch) (10:30 A.M. to 7 P.M.)
